What is Worship?

Christian worship is true faith in the true God expressing itself in adoration and obedience. For the Christian, then, every moment of life is to be offered as worship in response to who Jesus is and what Jesus has done. This means that we do not come to church to worship. Instead, we come to church worshiping. For this reason our time together as a church is best described as gathered worship or corporate worship.

During gathered worship we worship Jesus through a number of ways. Some common elements of our corporate worship include prayer, the reading and teaching of God’s Word, singing, financial giving, communion, and loving one another.

Just as important as this, though, is how we worship outside of our corporate gathering. This doesn’t so much require that we do “special” things as it requires that every normal thing we do is offered as an act of worship to the God who created us, sustains us, and redeems us.
