The members of Emmaus Church affirm the following beliefs:
Triune God.
We believe there is one true God (Deut. 6:4, 32:39) who is personal (Gen. 2:16-17), infinite (1 Ki. 8:27), uncreated (Gen. 1:1) Spirit (Jn. 4:24) existing eternally in three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, each of whom is equally God and equally worthy of worship (Matt. 28:19-20, 2 Cor. 13:14).
God the Father.
We believe that God the Father sovereignly reigns over all things (1 Chr. 29:11-12). While all human beings rebel against God’s rule there is no person and no event that is outside of the Father’s sovereign control (Dan. 4:35, Ps. 33:10-11) as he works out all things according to his own good pleasure, as he planned in eternity past (Acts 4:28, Eph. 1:11). He is the righteous judge of the universe before whom all persons stand condemned (Jas. 4:12, Rom. 1:18-20) yet he has freely chosen to save some from the judgment they deserve and grant them every spiritual blessing in Christ (Eph. 1:3-4). He accomplished this by sending his Son into the world he created and loves (John 3:16-17).
Jesus Christ.
We believe that Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully man (Jn. 1:1-3, 1:14, Heb. 1:3, 2:14) co-equal and co-eternal with God the Father and God the Spirit (Jn. 17:5, Col. 2:9). As eternal God, the Son voluntarily became man, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary (Matt. 1:18, Phil. 2:6-8). Through his sinless life Jesus revealed true God and true man and accomplished the redemption of his people (Rom. 3:24) through his substitutionary death on the cross (1 Pet. 2:24) and secured our justification through his physical resurrection from the dead (Rom. 4:25). The Father glorified the Son through His ascension and Jesus now sits at the right hand of the Father where he serves as the only mediator between God and man until the day of His return. (Eph. 1:18-22, 1 Tim. 2:5-6).
Holy Spirit.
We believe the Holy Spirit is God, co-equal and co-eternal with God the Father and God the Son (Matt. 28:19, Acts 5:3-4). As such, the Holy Spirit possesses all of the divine attributes including, but not limited to, eternality (Heb. 9:14), omnipresence (Ps. 139:7-8), omniscience (1 Cor. 2:10-11), omnipotence (Rom. 15:13), holiness (Heb. 3:7) and truthfulness (Jn. 16:13). The Holy Spirit is a personal being with a will (1 Cor. 12:11), a mind (Rom. 8:27) and emotions (Eph. 4:30) who seals, indwells, empowers and baptizes every believer in to the Body of Christ (Acts 1:8, 1 Cor. 12:13, Eph. 1:13).
Bible.
We believe the Holy Bible to be God’s written means of self-revelation to mankind, with Jesus Christ as the central message and fulfillment of all of Scripture (Matt. 5:17, Lk. 24:25-27, Jn. 5:39). The human authors of the sixty-six canonical books were moved by the Holy Spirit to write the very words they recorded (Jn. 16:12-13, 2 Pet. 1:20-21). As such, the Bible is God-breathed, the final authority for faith and life, without error in the original writings, and infallible in all that it affirms (Matt. 5:18, Jn. 17:17, Acts 17:11, 2 Tim. 3:16-17).
Humanity.
We believe God created humanity – male and female – in his own image and for his own glory (Gen. 1:27, Isa. 43:7). As God’s image-bearers each person is intrinsically valuable and shows us something of what God is like (Gen. 1:26, Gen. 9:6).

However, human rebellion has distorted the image of God in every aspect of life: be it moral, spiritual, mental, relational, or physical (Rom. 3:10-18, 3:23) causing human beings to be separated from God and placed under his wrath (Eph. 2:1-3).
Salvation.
We believe that salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone (Jn. 14:6, Acts 4:12) whom through his perfect life (Rom. 5:19), sacrificial death (1 Pet. 3:18) and victorious resurrection (Rom. 6:8-11) delivers his people from the tyranny of sin and death and grants them eternal life (Jn. 3:16, Col. 2:9-15). This salvation is freely given by God to those who place their faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ (Eph. 2:8-10) and is equally relevant in this present life and in the coming age (Phil. 1:21-26).
Church.
We believe the universal Church consists of all of God’s people throughout all time (Rom. 11:17-24, Eph. 3:4-7). It is a spiritual organism (Rom. 12:5) in which God himself dwells (Eph. 2:21-22). Jesus Christ is its builder (Matt. 16:18), foundation (Eph. 2:20-21) and head (Eph. 1:22-23). As the head of the Church Jesus is its supreme authority (Col. 1:18) and its source of nourishment (Col. 2:19) and growth (Eph. 4:15-16). The purpose of the universal Church is to glorify God (Eph. 3:20-21) through the exaltation of the triune God (Rom. 15:5-6), the edification of the people of God (Eph. 4:11-13) and the evangelism of the world (2 Cor. 5:18-20). The universal church finds its visible manifestation in local churches each gathered in a particular time and place (1 Cor. 1:2, 2 Cor. 1:1).
Last Things.
We believe the Lord Jesus Christ will return triumphantly at the end of this age to destroy all evil powers (1 Cor. 15:21-26, Rev. 19:11-21), resurrect all humanity (Jn. 5:28-29, Acts 24:15), condemn all who have rejected Him to eternal punishment (2 Thess. 1:6-10, Rev. 20:11-15), and unite all believers to reign forever with God in glory (1 Thess. 4:16-17, Heb. 9:27-28).
